No universally accepted definition exists A useful definition: The definition suggests that waste depends on time (e.g. new products, war/shortage), location (e.g rural/small town vs. urban, climatic differences), culture (e.g food-wise), social conditions (e.g. poor vs. rich) as well as political regulations (e.g. fees on disposable items: bag, packaging etc.) EU: Waste directive:75/442/EEC amended 18.March 1991 (91/156/EEC) Waste shall mean any substance or object in the categories set out in Annex 1 which the holder discards or intends or is required to discard Annex 1: European Waste Catalogue: Amended several times |
